Publisher here..

How do I reduce this? I've worked to get my site alone down to 25 requests, but these ads are killing me.

No matter if it's Adsense, Amazon CPM, various networks, etc. They are all loading 100+ http requests.

Should I get an ad server or is that pointless? I tried to learn G DoubleClick for publishers over the past six months, and it's just not going to happen. It's overly complex. Every single video I've watched forgets to mention one thing: Where to put in the fucking ad code! How to setup the ad chain, etc..

If I look at other big brands, their loading way fewer http requests.. Even with super clunky sites to begin with.

I think you are looking at it as an arbitrary number, 300+ requests, which has to get reduced. If the requests are not hosted from your site, then the page load would be async, but even if they aren't, the question is how fast is your website at the moment? If you aren't seeing a different in speed by more then 1 second, 1 http request or 3000 doesn't make a difference.

There is more productive things to focus on if there is no difference in page speed that's causing you penalties or to lose conversions. So how fast are you going now, with and without the Ads?

True.

Went from 1 - 1.78 second load times to 4 - 5.06 second load times adding banner ads. (Site itself isn't fully optimized yet)

Page size got bumped up only 0.5 MB though.

Page speed score went from 97% > 80%, and 88% down to 62% on Yslow.

I'm looking at the requests as if I were on mobile, 25 is easy, 300-800 I imagine that being more painful.

No penalties that I know of.. You're right. Hmm..

In terms of loading the site, to be honest, it just as as fast without it being calculated.

I really can't tell the difference. (I know G, might nit pick over it though)
