App Store Optimisation

from what I know it is a matter of good old keywords combined with number of downloads, but I have to say I haven't done any app store optimization, so maybe I am wrong and someone will correct me.

But I see it like a search engine more or less, you just have to find out what factors are important and aproximatly how they weigh against each other.
 
I've had some experience with the Android app store and one major ranking factor is the number of downloads and the user retention of those downloads.
 
One thing that is important to remember with keywords is to not go crazy trying to rank for many different keywords. If you are stuffing keywords into descriptions and titles people may find the app, but there's a chance your description of the app doesn't make a whole lot of sense (people make this mistake a lot). At the end of the day, App Store Optimization requires getting people to see your app AND download it.
