Backing UP WP

As a total non tech person this is sending me fucking insane.

I have just bought and installed backupbuddy and it doesnt work.

I want a complete backup solution for my WP site that will export to S3.

What does anyone here do / use?
 
I use updraft plus (free version) to back up to Dropbox.
Works like a charm, and so easy even @built was able to use it :tongue:

TY think i tried it and it didnt work - computer is going through the window in 5,4,3....

@emp - is there a way to test the back up it makes by importing on another dummy site? is there another plugin thats needed?
 
Backup Buddy is pretty inconsistent. It all depends on what server you put it on and which other plugins you're using. It conflicts pretty heavily with caching plugins. I used it on about 250 sites at one point, and about 20 of those were complete headaches to get it working.

I'm now using Updraft Plus as well for Wordpress sites. The only thing I don't like is that it bundles your folders into separate zip files. I'm not sure if it only updates them when something changes in them, or if it runs on a schedule. I have looked into the zips though to confirm everything is there, and its there. Restoring won't be a walk in the park like Backup Buddy was. It'll take a little hands-on effort with mysql imports and FTP work. Not a big deal if you know how to do it.
 
thanks guys - updraft seems to be playing nice now and is exporting to s3 perfectly.
I really really need a developer on standby... this has taught me I am a MASSIVE bottle neck in my own progress...
 
@Bloghue can help you out with BackupBuddy if you have questions. That dude loves that plugin.
 
I use https://www.siteautobackup.com/ to create daily cPanel backups on S3.

Pros
  • It´s super cheap (I pay $2 per month for 12 sites)
  • It backs up all files, also the ones outside of your WP folder
  • Backup system not dependent on your WP install
  • Super easy to use, I never had any issues
Cons
  • Each site is compressed in one big .tar file, so backing up on a per file basis requires some manual effort. (you can´t do this from the WP dashboard).

Err.. nope.

It bundles stuff into sperate zip files, but restoring (even on an empty install) is a one-click affair.
Point it to the directory - it recreates every thing, from themes to plugins to data.
