I have some domains that I want to sell and others that I may want to do something with in the future. Some of these domains have sites that I previously built out and then gave up on.

For those domains that I want to sell, is there any benefit (SEO or otherwise) for keeping the old site live on a server even though I'm no longer doing anything with it?

For those domains I want to do something with later, will keeping the site live help at all with the rankings down the road even though it's getting no traffic now?

Yes there is a benefit.

If the site is left offline it'll get de-indexed and the trust it once had with Google will need to be re-established. That's why aged domains rank much quicker and easier than new sites.

Also there is a chance the site will start to get traffic as Google trusts it more since it's been around longer. Often times, suddenly you will start ranking for some decent volume keywords after the search engines decide you aren't a blackhat spammer.
