One of my new hobbies is a niche that could use a good authority site. Most of the "authority" sites are actually retailers and even then aren't information authorities. I see an opportunity to bring valuable knowledge to the market and connect with retailers who have affiliate programs.
This will be my first affiliate/MFA site so I have no experience other than web design/css/seo. I've been one of those people just reading up on all sorts of crap affiliate marketing blog after blog sometimes finding good stuff. My biggest block has been finding a "niche".
A keyword planner search shows 90k/mo for the main niche keyword with low competition and low $ CTR. My concern is the low competition here, and potentially the search amount. I have no idea what's a good amount in this case and if I even need to care about the competition. Basic search results only show retailers.
Haven't looked at long tail potential but I have 70+ article ideas (guides, reviews etc) so content-wise I'm feeling pretty confident. I found at least one site that does something along the lines of what I have in mind but it does it poorly and I can definitely setup something strong.
Any tips for a newb before I start writing content and building the site? Maybe dissuade me from getting in the niche because it's crap? Something in particular I should look out for?
