How can I slow down time?

Earlier tonight a friend and I were having a conversation and reminiscing about when we were kids and a week felt like forever, a month felt like an eternity... Time started to speed up and by highschool, that 2 months for summer vacation felt like nothing. Now, months are turning into years and I'm looking for strategies to "slow down time". I want time to pass slowly like when I was a kid.

I guess when you've only been alive for a short time that a year represents a much bigger portion of your lifespan, but there's got to be a way to slow things down...

It's about perception. When you are young your concept of an hour changes as you get older, cause you've had "more hours" then you younger version.

The only way to slowdown time is to stop doing repetitive daily tasks - including your 9 to 5 job. That daily over and over and over of the same thing dulls you away, and all that time gets condensed into one single blur. You then look up January has turned to July and you are asking yourself what just happened to those 6 months. What happened was you were in a daze of repetition.

Do something different every single day, and at the end of the week you'll realized how long that week actually was.

It also has to do with the depth of involvement you have with the activities you are undertaking. Starting with grade school, we are forced to do stuff we don't want to do and we find ways to internally make the time fly by. If you want time to slow down, don't multi-task, find aspects of what you're doing that you enjoy and focus on that, and try to breathe as much life into it as possible. View everything as new and magical, release labels and preconceived notions. Are cats just "cats" or are they furry bipolar magical beasts that make cute noises? Is that a lizard or a miniature dragon dinosaur creature?

Hehe I liked this.

Thanks for your thoughts, gentlemen.

I'm really starting to get into this 'being mindful' stuff.

If you have a task you don't want to do like writing some boring content or whatever... instead of thinking "eergh I have to do this, but then I can relax..." you'll get to the relaxation point but you'll already be stressing about the next thing you've got to do so you won't even enjoy the relaxation time. IF, however, you just embrace the grind... you'll be living mindfully in the moment and when you're present in the now, time slows down.

When you're always looking ahead to the next task on your to-do, you'll miss the fact that you've been living life all along...

I'm sure someone can say this more eloquently than me....

Dat sizzurp will slow down time. Life gets chopped and screwed, ya feel me.

Take it from an old-timer. It never slows down. Try to actually live every moment. Don't ever fall into auto-pilot or try to pass the time. Each second is one you don't get back. Be invested and aware in every moment and in everything you do. Each moment is rich with enjoyment if you can establish an aware and positive state of mind.

I think a lot of it has to do with focus. If you hyper-focus on the things that you're doing, you are effectively expending more consciousness (and subconsciousness) as well as more overall mental processing power, during a given period of time, versus what you may have otherwise normally done. Doing this, you will sometimes find that you accomplished more in that period of time than you normally would. This can also make days and weeks feel like an eternity.

Exactly. Hyper-Focusing on one thing makes time seem alot longer than it is. Have you ever been really hungry and stared at a microwave for 5 mins? Longest 5 minutes of your life.

The other way to look at it is, a person could also shift that focus to meaningless things like pop culture, media, news....and they will have "time traveled" through to old age before they've realized it. LOL

You can't, is how it is supposed to be; what you can do is live fully every day, challenge yourself and try new things, don’t settle for mediocrity, flip some websites, work hard every day on things you love but don't go auto-mode, always be learning new things, read some good book (non-work related), travel, go for a walk and appreciate the surroundings, talk to strangers, do exercise, meditate, etc.
Do things that you love and excite you, you will feel more accomplished at the end of every month and won't feel kinda empty inside. "I nailed the month and really enjoyed it"
The only thing we take from this life are memories and experiences, don't forget to enjoy the ride.

An easy- way to slow down time is to get an awful marriage, this is super effective.
