Gifs and vids are not the same though. They're used for different things.

The current BuSo Sponsor, Rankfluence, has a nice site with plenty of these SVG-style animations. I'm not sure that they're employing the exact same method and I doubt it's a high traffic site, but at least you can see it in action there.

SVG animations are cool too, in general, I try to use SVG for anything like logos or graphics as they are typically smaller and look crisp on any screen, compared to png or jpg.
