What's the first few things you invest in on a new site?

So what do you invest in when you start targeting a new niche?

Content? Links? Facebook ads?

I start with content, you can't really proceed with links with nothing to point the too, but before I do any of that I spend quite a bit of time with keyword research, planning site architecture and getting the branding looking right. It will make link prospecting and building an audience much easier if you look credible from the outset.

It depends on type of site I'm building. For a lead gen site, I will spend most of the money on driving paid traffic to specific LPs. For rank, bank, dump, I'll spend the money on slightly shady links (any old timers remember slightly shady seo?) . For brand/viral sites, money spent will be focused on content and paid social traffic.
