How Does Reddit Detect Previously Banned Users?

I did a bit more research using AmIUnique.org - and wow, even after a browser restart and computer restart several things didn't change that are detectable by websites that are pretty difficult to change without hard work:

1. Fonts (the ones you have enabled and do NOT)
2. webGLData image output
3. Canvas output
4. Screen Resolution

I never even thought of the fonts scenario where you grab a list of all the fonts the user has enabled on their computer, then combine that with webGLData + Canvas, and a host of other unique identifies.

I haven't been able to find the specific hardware IDs yet, but the simple face that the uniqueness of the canvas image drawn stays the same means websites can identify you rather easily.

Canvas image:
Trok7Cg.png

On that AmIUnique site you can download the JSON files of your data, then clear history/cookies and even restart your computer. The Fonts, webGLData and Canvas stays exactly the same.

Throw in screen resolution and other aspect and it's a wrap.

The only way to change the Canvas and webGLData image is to use another browser.

i don't think even browser changes can change it. it probably depends on http requests. most browsers set same preferences(like language accepted, content encoding accepted etc). removing fonts that are used less by websites could help imo.

I've tried multiple browsers, incluiding Tor (which gets you banned automatically) and LibreWolf, none worked. For some reason Brave anti fingerprinting shield is the only one that actually works(go figure).

I can confirm they detect your browser fingerprint, but i do not know which data they are using to detect you.

Man, true that. At least mods in other forums are getting paid for running the site. Reddit mods are sth else, doing that stupid thing for free. most of them don't even promote anything in their subreddit. maybe some bigger power is paying them to censor posts....the thing is if you've written more than 100 unique comments with a same userid, btw comments which are very unique not like "oh so nice" and "lame repeated reddit jokes"..people will identify you very easily. My new plan is to use new reddit account every 15 days so that people don't find about you that bad. but it's practically impossible as you need some karma to write your opinions, else you'll get shadowbanned by negative karma.

The longest i stayed without an account was three months. They still got me after 6 days (the only positive thing was that Reddit anti-spam filters never caught me.) It doesn't matter how long you stay out of Reddit, if you are a serial ban evader, Reddit mods will catch you. The only way to come back is if the mods simply do not care, or if they somehow disappear.

Also, Reddit is working on new ban evasion tools, which will make life even harder for future ban evasion: https://old.reddit.com/r/ModSupport...unity_digest_made_it_clear_that_you_could_do/

I assumed everyone that was doing this used a different VM for each user...

Can you change your browser fingerprinting with a VM? I've tried different versions of Windows and that also did not work. It's Browser and IP related.

What's hardware ID? Can you be specific or give us a link to understand what you mean by this?
hwid means identification of hardwares like roll numbers of students.

https://security.stackexchange.com/questions/258681/can-somebody-abuse-my-hardwares-ids

* * *
to bypass them, you've to change some or all of them.(good news, according to stackexchange answer above, it seems they calculate your total hwid hash instead of each one as yours id of say "hard disk" can be easily used by someone else)

i said some because if you change any of them, the hash will change (if they're hashing all the ids in their server)..
say these are your hardware ids-:

ssd: 123
hdd: 101
other_hardwares: 201

now the possibilites are lot, we don't know how they actually store this in reddit's server.
1 possibility would be to add all of them =425
and pass them through a hash function.
it could be anything "integer->integer", "integer->ascii" etc mapping
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_function

say they do simple hashing
output=sum modulo 100

then the output would be 425 modulo 100=25

now if you change one of your hwid say ssd and make it to 321

sum=623

output value would be 23.

It seems like they're using this and you don't need to change every hardware ids. But I recommend changing all of them. I am following the article about how to bypass it. I'll share it in dms if required as if many people read that, reddit will find sth else.

the site starts with "s" and has a "tech" in its name.

Exactly what you said. Reddit mods leave and breath reddit, they dont do nothing in their lifes other than post on Reddit, which is why ban evasion is extraordinarly hard, they care too much about their precious "kingdoms". Even after changing my entire computer fingerprinting and ISP did not work, they eventually realized who i was.

Btw, do not join subreddits. Your account gets permanently attached to it. You need to delete your account to evade the site wide ban.

One thing you guys should consider is if the reason you get banned is for "ban evasion" that is, going back to the subs you were permabanned in.

That's the thing that gets me every time. If I stay out of that one or two subs, then I am allowed to keep my account. I also got Admins to sanction a mod, that was digging through post history etc. Reddit has a lot of batshit insane mods.

I still don't get how these specific subs can see it is me.

I got banned for a location sub merely for joining. They must have some internal tool for the mods to use.
i can help you bro. pls google "how to bypass hwid bans". honestly i'm very hopeful that it works,. i am on my way to change hwids. if you google the term, there's a website that starts with "s" and has a "tech" in its name, follow its tutorials. i'm 1/4 way of following it. GOD I hope it's not browser fingerprint, if that's the case, it's impossible to bypass.

changing hwid worked pretty well. I'll update if the account gets shadowbanned now.

I hope Elon Musk buys Reddit
broh i hope you've used reddit now. and hope you're unbanned. i researched this from based on your question. there were no such posts except here.

Hi,

So r/modsupport has invented a new bot that shows all mods who reported content under the disguise of finding more moderators.

https://www.reddit.com/user/ModSupportBot/

Would blocking the bot help users to stay private?

Asking this here since the BHW group is just a bunch of third world ldiots. They can't even answer a simple question.

I doubt it. Reddit hates privacy,

Some apps fail which can give you them your fingerprinting signature. I did a lot of testing with various browsers anti-fngerprinting methods and none worked.

I doubt they use hardware IDs anyway, they can only have access to what your browser gives to the website.

I've felt this since few months. There was a local sub of mine where no matter whatever I did, my posts would straight up end up in mod queue. But I bypassed the hardware and browser fingerprinting ban. So, I'm not sure how do they still track the user even after changing all these things?
Can anyone help me understand?
It's here:
https://old.reddit.com/r/modnews/comments/wrnnvb/piloting_a_new_ban_evasion_tool/
Has anyone researched about bypassing this? Or understanding how's it done? This sounds some machine learning thingo where they're guessing. That's why they're not directly permabanning them for having an alt as probably the False Positives are pretty high in this case.

Reddit auto-moderator filters uses Deep Learning to connect ban evaders and block them from posting or remove posts. You need a very old or unique account to stop posting again.

Hello everyone,
I just joined on this forum because I saw this thread and I wanted to ask one thing.
I recently got site-wide permanent suspension on Reddit and the reason was stated as "ban evasion".
I actually didn't do anything on purpose and situation is a bit complicated since I was primarily on one subreddit that changed rules recently and I didn't got ban from mods of subreddit, but from Reddit admins instead.
I definitely didn't broke rules on purpose, but unfortunately Reddit don't care.
I won't go into details, because situation is complicated and I'd have to write a lot to explain it,but it's nothing that really matter anyway.
Mods in that subreddit are extremely relaxed and friendly and founder/main mod wanted to remove ban,but he wasn't able to since ban came directly from Reddit.

I met really great people on that subreddit and I bonded with them pretty quickly since it's smaller community of only 50-ish members.

Since Reddit bans lasts lifetime I really don't have any other options besides simply try to bypass the system to get back.
I know that Reddit is BS website and I agree with that, but these people are completely different and I became very close with them and I'd like to get back no matter what it takes.

Since you all mentioned mods and bans on certain subreddits, I'm in a bit different situation since I got ban directly from Reddit admins, not by mods.
I've read whole thread and I'm not sure does everything you guys wrote applies on my case as well since I got banned by Reddit admins?

My laptop died few months ago and I planned to buy new one anyway,so I'm not sure if that would help since it's new hardware system.
I'm ready to ask for new router from my ISP if needed as well, since it's pretty old and slow anyway.
However I'm not sure is there anything that would actually WORK as a permanent solution to avoid ban?
I'm afraid I'll always have feeling that I can get banned anytime and it will keep me on toes whole time.
What are your suggestions and opinion about my situation?

No website has access to your Router MAC Address other than you and your ISP.

Reddit uses browser fingerprinting and your IP. If you want to go back to Reddit, call your ISP to change your router and download Brave.
Hey Bud...thanks for the info.
YES, i changed my router recently as the old one was over 10yrs old and slow. My new one is bout 3 times faster

1. If Reddit uses Browser Prints, why not just 'Downgrade your browswer version' and change your IP ADDRESSS ??? (you can do that in your router control).

2. Not sure how Brave would help... how does Brave confuse Reddit?

Thanks

Follow this and change hwid, it works. https://slothytech.com/how-to-bypass-shadow-ban-in-warzone/
But for some, they could be also testing browser fingerprinting. So, there's an issue! I'm not sure how you'd bypass that (I've basic ideas like changing fonts, changing browser, changing profile, changing extensions etc but I've not tested and tried).
You don't need VPN(Just restart your router as nowadays every ISP gives dynamic IP address, but I recommend VPN that gives you 1 IP and where you can change the IP weekly or monthly, that way you'll never be tracked with 2 layer or protection.
But there's a huge obstacle, it's deep learning! You can bypass everything because they are not machine learning techniques. But it's impossible to bypass reddit's new deep learning system. So, say you got banned from a subreddit once in the past. And you create new alt account, now your post won't get published, it'd go to spam filters/mod queue and mod has to approve it manually(Which they'll never do, most subs just delete the mod queue automatically). So, you can use the subreddit(comment maybe) but no posting. So, the only way to truly bypass such restrictions is to never get banned. The possible solution to never get banned is to create new accounts every 30 days. Just hoard 10 accounts at once, gather karma at all of them and maybe purchase some accounts then use them one by one. Be careful and create every account with different IP (Ideally you should make each account with new hardware id, but that'll f* your hardware; my hard drive failed after I change the hwid-Not sure if it's a coincidence or sth).

Use this, it's easy but read my latest comments. Bypassing bans is easy, but posting in that subreddit isn't easy if you were banned in the past. Bypassing Deep Learning is impossible from noobs like us. we need to know exactly how it's deep learning system tracks your posts. I bet they even learn how you write, you're f*ed if they do so.(Even if they didn't do it, the mods were going to find it out anyway). So, the best trick to bypass all these is to be aware and keep creating alts ever 30 days. Use new accounts every month. This way, your chance of getting banned decreases significantly.

just got banned from one sub for no reason(I don't ever comment in any subreddit these days, Reddit had made me a leecher). For asking a help post without any reason. This is fing shit. They ban like madmen and wonder why are people trying to evade the ban. I get it if they ban someone trolling or hating someone or sth like that. But why ban someone genuine?

I don't know if you are aware or not, but.... 'Crazy Reddit' has sub-reddit forums that will 'Ban You' if you even 'Belong to another forum'... you don't even have to join them (all you have to do is post under their forum. Reddit is hyper-Liberal. I believe this is part of the 'work-from-home-Liberal-thinking' tribe that Reddit users are composed of; (Leftoid Mania'... TDS to the Max). Left to themselves, Leftoids will implode. I hate to bring up politics, but it is 'what it is.'

You can also purchase Reddit accounts and regroup using those...not sure how successful that is.
Like i said before, there are a few sub-reddits that i enjoy, otherwise, Reddit has become one big pain in the arse~

Hey Buds,

I ran across a site that sells Reddit accounts with the Vendors advertising 'CMS' quite a bit.

I'm wondering 'Why' someone would purchase a Reddit Account? (i don't think this has anything to do with Contact Management Systems).

Anyone know?

To drop links, to feel like a fake boss with nonsense karma, to waste time caring about what other peasants think. Honestly, a lot of online vendors are buying accounts to drop fake reviews.

The mac address gets dropped by the next router/device upstream, unless that router is told to preserve/pass it, so they'd never see your mac or your router's for that matter. IP address is likely but still not good because many people have a lot of users behind a single public IP. Browser fingerprints and local storage are good possibilities.

  • Why wouldn't they see your router...?
  • You saying they would only count the Router Mac from Seller?
?

Why wouldn't they see your router...?
When a network packet crosses over a subnet, in your case a LAN router that's probably doing NAT with a public IP and something like 192.168.x.x on the inside, the mac address gets dropped by the next device in transit because that data has no meaning outside of the subnet/network. In short, you can't trace the mac address over the network back to your router, you can only trace it on the network it's connected to.

So, what you are saying is, Reddit cannot read the MAC address of your router ?

So, what you are saying is, Reddit cannot read the MAC address of your router ?
Yes, that's correct, not without something that runs locally and has the privilege to access the network data. The Internet itself operates on Layer 3 of the OSI model where routing happens (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSI_model) and MAC addresses exist as part of Layer 2 where switches live. When a packet leaves your computer, the MAC address of your network adapter is sent to your local router, which then does a mapping and replaces it with it's own. Then your MAC address is passed to the next device in transit which is normally an ISP router and that router will receive the MAC of your router then replace it with its own. Then the ISP router will hit the next hop and pass it's MAC and this thing continues till it hits wherever you're trying to go. Your local network adapter's MAC was dropped by your Router. Your router's MAC is dropped by your ISP so that's about as far as the exposure of that goes. There are some exceptions but it's rare.

There are some exceptions but it's rare.

APPs can read the MAC address, like the mobile Reddit App, since they run separately from the browser. It's why Reddit keeps pushing to install that damn thing.

They can fingerprint smartphones and tablets easily, laptop/computers not so much cause people access Reddit through their browser App.

Basically Chrome can ready your MAC address, it just doesn't send it the end website cause it has no reason to.

The Reddit App though... sounds like they could have their reasons, but there are better ways to fingerprint a user by reading fonts and outputted canvas/image art.

Basically Chrome can ready your MAC address, it just doesn't send it the end website cause it has no reason to.
The main reason is that would be a pretty big security issue (hardware info can be gleaned from MAC addresses, potential attack vector) and that's why there's no interface in JavaScript to do that or any other functionality to hook that info. But yeah, any exe and many local scripts on the local network can get the mac from the layer 2 stuff, was unaware that reddit had an actual exe, the bastards. I concur that there are far better ways that have been known for many years now to fingerprint a web visitor and they are pretty damn accurate too. MAC addresses can be spoofed and it's not even hard. If in doubt, get a VPS, install remote desktop with nomachine and use that.

SO the solution is;
  • -Use Brave Browser
  • -Activate Privacy
  • -Block Fingerprinting
  • What else ???

Yes, that will work. You dont need a new computer btw, changing your router does the trick.

Are you on an university? If yes, it's likely that someone browses Reddit using the college IP and got banned. Because they issue IP bans, it's easy to get false-positives.

Really dumb decision by the website btw.

I'm wondering 'Why' someone would purchase a Reddit Account? (i don't think this has anything to do with Contact Management Systems).

Having a prolific account can get you to advertise for some people. I used to get advertisiment and shitty job offers in the past.

1. Browser Fingerprinting is the information your browser gives about your computer to websites (IP, screentype, installed fonts etc).

2. IDK. Brave has some anti fingerprinting setting that Reddit cant detect.

SO the solution is;
  • -Use Brave Browser
  • -Activate Privacy
  • -Block Fingerprinting
  • What else ???

4. Delete your old account (use old reddit)
5. VPN/Proxy or a new IP address.
6. Wait a couple months.

The mac address gets dropped by the next router/device upstream, unless that router is told to preserve/pass it, so they'd never see your mac or your router's for that matter. IP address is likely but still not good because many people have a lot of users behind a single public IP. Browser fingerprints and local storage are good possibilities.

They say they dont instate IP bans because "it' easy to evade", but you will know that's bullshit if you do a quick google search

Alright...(me again).

I just purchased an account,...with a US IP . I'll let you know what happens~

Hey Buds,

I thought this deserved its own thread.
I was banned from Reddit couple of months ago (which PMO, because there were some forums that i haven't been able to replace). So i did some research and decided to purchase an account (along with a new router;which i needed anyway, and downloaded BRAVE browser). ____The account is 7mths old and has 4000 karma rep. HOWEVER, the account has been banned from a few forums already (Jaysus). I was going to say something to the Seller....but first pass it by here. I paid $18 for the account since it was a USA IP account and thought that's best (since i'm in the USA).

Not sure what to do, since those forums are not in my interest...BUT, i risk another permanent ban if i screw up in the future (which i probably will)

Advice / Suggestions... ?
thanks for your input~

If the account is banned from subreddits you would never use then it doesnt really matter. Also $18 is pretty cheap. There are accounts that go easily for +200$ I would have prefered to make a new account.
