Introductions Thread

Hello everyone!!

Nice to be in an amazing site that I recently discovered.

I am from Spain and I think that although in my country there are SEOs of a good level, in the English-speaking market you are one step ahead.

I hope to learn a lot from all of you and to help as much as my knowledge can or allows me.

Greetings.

Welcome, @subiudice. Do you have any prior experience? What are you working on now? Glad to have you aboard.

Always good to see more Europeans here with different languages and ways to work with niches, welcome to the community.

Thanks a lot @Ryuzaki @ToffeeLa !! Well, I have my "normal" job and for a few years I have enjoyed creating small niches. I have several with relative success, but in view of the information I have read in this community, I think I can go one step further there and attack larger projects.

The truth is that in Spain I had not seen many of the work methodologies that I have seen in this forum. Many SEOs are geared towards the niches and forget (or at least do not want to share information) about serious, high-traffic projects.

Let's go for it !!!

I wrote an intro post, but it was moved here, so I writing a brief intro post again. Basically I am in my mid-30's and used to SEO and affiliate marketing but burnt out, took some time away and now I want to become a freelance full stack javascript dev and an affiliate marketer. Great to be here.

Been lurking here on and off for a few years.

Always had it in the back of my mind to start my own site but never gave it the go until just recently. Jumped in at the beginning of October. Why didn't I start years ago?

Been following the Digital Strategy Crash Course religiously. Also use the search feature on here like a madwoman to answer additional questions (and double check on a few things from the crash course that seemed outdated).

Just hit my first 40 posts total. My goal right now is 5 high-quality posts per week. Posts average 2k words each. But some are shorter, some are longer. I take the time to optimize, add images, interlink, etc before publishing each post. Also interlink as many old posts as possible to the new ones after publishing. I'm quite familiar with my niche. I've worked in the niche, written content in the niche, and enjoy the niche as a "hobby" in my spare time.

I've been working online full-time since 2010. Started technical writing in the field I worked in previously, moved into writing for trade mags and a few big-time print mags, spent a little time with the content mills (not sure why - that shit's absolute hell), transitioned into online content creation for sites like a lot of us run here, and made some decent dough from a self-publishing venture on Amazon during this lockdown.

Slowly transitioning away from freelance work. Plan to be completely out by January 1. Then time to dedicate 100% to my website project. Plan to keep up the 5 posts per week (minimum) schedule through December and into the new year. Will add in outreach, link building, traffic leaking, social promotion, etc, etc, etc (etc) in January when I'm finally free of the ball and chain of client work. Want to learn it all. I crank out 2k words per day in 3ish hours so plan to spend several hours per day (6 or more?) getting the hang of the actual marketing side of Digital Marketing.

Covid really made me realize how important it is to me to have my own projects. I need to be in control of my income in the future. Been fiending to grind since March but the trickle of freelance work has been abysmal. Knowing any income created from my website is mine and mine alone has kept me juiced the last two months.

Look forward to becoming a contributing member of this community. Hope to share my journey with you all. Already feel in debt to everyone here that contributes, newbies and long-timers alike.

Feel like I need to sling some $$$ at the big dogs (@Ryuzaki, @CCarter, etc, etc, etc) for everything I've learned from them already. @secretagentdad a real one too (like seeing him around Reddit too). Been loving the monthly updates from @CaptainHustle. Sad to see his current case study end. That first $1million coming soon though, I can feel it. Also really enjoying @DanielS case study since he's in a similar place to me getting started (why did it take us so long to go all in!). Honestly though, everyone (and I really mean everyone) here has been a huge help to me so far even as a lurker. There's almost too much information, inspiration, and motivation.

Hope I'm not kooking it with this long ass intro post. Hope it's okay to tag people in an intro thread. Not quite sure of the etiquette on Builder Society. Can't wait to get let out of the newbie dungeon!

Feel like my shoutouts could be taken the wrong way. I haven't had any type of success at all yet - and I realize I have a LONG way to go before I do. But, as a true beginner, setting up a site and everything to do with that has been so damn overwhelming for me. Everyone on here has provided such valuable insights. It's crazy how wack Reddit, YouTube, etc are for the most part compared to this community. So my shoutouts were more a form of thanks to everyone for keeping this newbie on track so far.

Ain't nothing to it but to do it! I'm glad you've found use and inspiration out of all the posting everyone is doing here. We're happy to have you, @Dalva. Thanks for sharing your story. It's only the beginning!

Welcome to BuSo.

Glad to have you here. I am also happy that you found my updates useful.

If there is one thing I wish I knew before I started, it is that promoting your content is far more important than writing new pieces of content in the beginning. The articles that you promote will do great in search. This means more traffic, which means more relevance, more trust and eventually more $$$.

All the best!

Thanks to you both for the kind welcoming words.

@Ryuzaki - Just curious, when was BuSo most active? Is it as active now as it's always been? Like I mentioned in my original post, I'm following the Crash Course and also using the search feature for additional questions...it sort of seems like the old days were a little more active. But that could easily just be my newbie lens as well as the type of threads I've been searching out on here...

@CaptainHustle - Thanks for the wake up call. I needed that reminder to get on the ball with promotion...actually, that's one of the big things I took away from your updates. Your quick success with very few posts (comparatively) seems to stem largely from going all in on promotion straight out of the gate. It's funny (and a bit sad) how I noted this (mentally and in my notebook) but still convinced myself I needed to create a shit load of content first before any promotion. I guess this is one of those instances where I knowingly choose the easy route for me (content creation) rather than the more intimidating yet more important route (promotion).

I'm going to implement at least an hour or two of daily promotion this month, starting today. Maybe that will give me a little more traction. At the very least I'll have a solid handle on it when I have the time to crank promotion up into overdrive come January. Also, I'm especially excited to try HARO since you (CaptainHustle) seem to have had a lot of success with that.

Okay, the title may sound obnoxious but it is just a reference to my username.

Hello BuSo, nice to be here! I'll get straight to the point and share a little about me: I have been into online marketing for several years but failed to make it. Not that I regard it impossible, it is just that my work ethic sucks. To give you an idea of how bad my work ethic is...

I am receiving (i.e. not working/trading time) around $1000/mo in a 2nd world country. This money is double my base needs. Out of 24 hours in a day, I have 24 hours to myself. I am in the perfect situation to make it big - I have the money, and I have the time, yet I am too comfortable to start working. I waste a lot of time chasing other activities, albeit helpful toward my development, but not financial or career-wise.

I am not bragging by any means. Quite the contrary. I strongly dislike this situation because I am dependent on other people and factors and I feel useless. Yes, I do have more money than most of my peers and as much time as I want but right now I have no confidence in my ability to provide for myself. Trust me, it is a bad place to be in. I am feeling like a man child.

Anyway...

I have a website with a nice design (paid a designer to handle that) which is earning a few dollars a month from Amazon. Not much, under $10/mo. There are a few dozen posts on the website - under 50. Here is the issue. I've had this website for years now. In all these years, I've only posted less than 50 articles.

Needless to say, I am disgusted with my work ethic and I want to change this. So here I am. I know you will see me rise and I can't wait to share with you this journey of conquering myself. That's what it is for me, above anything else.

Now, sorry for venting and treating you like my psychotherapists. I swear I am fun at parties.

Here's to growing the fu*k up.

Do you enjoy writing articles? (Maybe you haven't written enough articles to determine the answer yet- just a thought...)

Thank you!

Honestly, I don't particularly enjoy writing articles. I am ok with pure informational articles - especially since I've picked a niche I am passionate about - but I despise writing commercial articles. I find researching products and reviewing them quite tedious but I am ok with writing the value part in the article.

On another note, I read through your journey earlier. I guess you are the opposite of me, haha, went HAM on those articles. Good job and keep it up!

The name is Michael. I am 30 years old Christian Egyptian with over 12 years of exp online. been doing domain brokerage, business development for ad network to being a portfolio owner while running a digital asset agency.. been around long enough to know shit happens and without going out of your comfort zone and grabbing success by the balls, you could end up burning the F out and losing not just time and effort, but also money and even friends. This is an introductory post about myself. I hope I can find like minded individuals here to share ideas and even do Jv's and thrive together.

Hi everyone, my name is Kelechi from Nigeria, I am completely new to digital marketing with zero experience. a friend introduced me to this forum and I am so eager to learn and share ideas along the way.
I hope I can get help and be properly guided. Thanks

Welcome aboard @MSF. It sounds like you have a lot of high quality and varied experience.

What are you currently working on? Your own portfolio?

Hello,

Glad to join the BuSo community. I am a long timer in the IM game, but never worked on this seriously.
Had my days in WF buying all the $7 WSOs and made $ here and there. I am now focused on creating content sites and pumping out lots of low vol longtail Kws following Jon D's methods as well as some KGRs after I came to know about that method from Doug C.
I also do RE investments and have a portfolio of rentals. and now trying to build a Digital RE portfolio!
I am here to learn more about building a portfolio of content sites and share whatever I can along the way in my journey.
I am very technical, so send me your tech question about website building.
All the best to everyone:smile:

Fat stacks dood is great.

Top quality outing/ follow along content.

You got anything you done yourself you want to tell us about?

I have few local Biz clients whom I provide website development & maintenance support. Currently working on 4 niche sites for my own portfolio.

Yes, working on reestablishing my own and improved digital asset mini-empire.

Hey everyone.

I've been dabbling in several digital enterprises for a couple of years, successfully ran several marketing campaigns before subscribing to the r/JustStart subreddit and creating my first niche site in late 2019.

I've been running the site ever since, getting it up to almost $2k per month with 30% MoM growth, until the December core update hit and decimated my single product reviews, which amounted to 80% of my affiliate income. I'm now trying to re-assess my strategy and looking for ways to expand with the limited budget that I have.

I've heard of this forum for a while, so hope to learn and contribute here while I recover.

Welcome to the forum!

What have you thought of so far?
Thanks!

It seems that the update has raised the value of links vs. topic relevancy and on-page SEO. So, provided that my analysis of the update is correct, I will have the most ROI if I start actively building links.

I've optimized my pages for backlinks, dialed down down publishing, hired an outreach VA and started doing more outreach myself.

I'm also considering stopping my work on single product reviews. All my single product reviews have been ejected into page 3.

This is something I've been learning as well. Mass-publishing content targeting low volume keywords does work, but links are still necessary to move up the rankings- even for keywords with 0 searches per. month.

It's all a numbers game after all, so it's good you've taken steps to upgrade your outreach efforts.

Yeah, I mean, the only solutions to this seem to be to either increase content output, create multi-product buyer intent articles (best "x" for "y") or to try launch-jacking (writing articles about new products before anyone else does for easier wins).

EDIT: Or, as you said, get more backlinks.

It happens, unfortunately. Anyone not expecting to be effected by algorithm updates is in for a dose of reality at some point. I'm not saying that was you. The way to minimize the effect of the core updates is to have a higher quantity and a higher quality of links pointing in at your site. It's simply the easiest way for them to fight spam now, since they're already using so many delayed and randomized reactions and that just made spammers more patient.

Anyways, I imagine it like this... you did a bunch of single product reviews and they got whacked. So then you start doing stuff like "best whatevers" and "best whatevers for whatever" and "whatever vs. whatever".

Ultimately once you have enough of these "irons in the fire" you'll find that one group of them will go down during an update and another will go up. You start to minimize the depth of the troughs in the waves created by the algo updates.

Then in your attempt to rank these reviews you start pumping out informational content, which makes getting backlinks easier and even getting them natural and automatic. Now you're not only shielded by more links but you're building topical relevancy for your niche and you're working the top of the funnel and the bottom of the funnel.

Google doesn't like sites that are purely bottom of the funnel. Was yours 90%+ or even 100% reviews?

Now you've got all this informational content designed to support the affiliate-based articles, and they're bringing in a lot of traffic so you slap display ads on that portion of the site. Now you're starting to diversify to some degree.

So on and so forth. You start building an email list. You start building a Youtube channel. You find other sources of traffic that also send in brand signals that bolsters your organic traffic.

The pendulum swings for all of us. It's just a matter of continuing to grow so the pendulum ratchets its way upwards with each swing. It's the ups and downs that continue to trend upwards.

Glad to have you on the forum and I wish you the best with your site in 2021!
