The domains are brandable because we only pick the ones that fall into the premium category (brandable/short/pronounceable/dictionary words, etc) and also because we strongly believe a kick-ass site should have a kick-ass brand on a kick-ass domain. You can charge more than a 35x multiple when flipping an earning website when it's built on a brandable/premium name, rather than a spammy keyword focused exact match.

Looking at your catalog, wondering, if an English domain is focused on a specific niche in one country, can that domain be easily adapted to that same niche in another english speaking country?

For example, a domain that hosted a site on south african sports. Could it be easily adapted to a site focused on USA sports?
 
Do you check that the domains don't have any owned and active trademarks? Including the non-us ones?

In regards to your question, nothing really changed buddy.

And I wouldn't necessarily recommend 'rebuilding' an aged domain before building something on it.
